Several universities/institutions across India conduct LLM entrance exams. The aim is to grant admissions to LLM, Masters of Law. Thousands of aspirants sit for these exams. The LLM entrance exam of each university has its specific exam details. Similarly, the LLM eligibility criteria differ as per the university. The LLM eligibility criteria of some of the popular LLM exams are given below.

 

Master of Law, popular as LLM, is a postgraduate law degree. The duration of the programme depends on the institution offering it. Some institutions offer 2-year LLM, and some offer 1-year LLM. The programme intends to provide its students with rigorous training and exposure through internship and fieldwork. During the programme, the candidates choose an area of specialisation. These areas of specialisation include various domains of law like Criminal law, family law, Human rights Law, Constitutional law and much more. The aim is to help candidates achieve expertise in one domain of law. Upon completion of the programme, the candidates can work as a lawyer, Legal writers, Legal Consultants etc. It widens your career opportunities and helps build a prosperous career. 

 

CLAT LLM Eligibility Criteria

Criteria Details
Qualifying Examination An LL.B Degree or an equivalent degree/ examination from a recognized university.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
  • 50% marks or its equivalent grade for General/OBC/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates.
  • 45% marks or equivalent for SC/ST candidates.
Age Limit NA

Note: 

  1. The candidates appearing for the qualifying exam in December 2022 are eligible for CLAT PG 2023.
  2. The tie-breaking mechanism will be used if two or more candidates get the same CLAT score. The first criterion is age. The older candidate receives the seat. If the age of the candidates is the same, then a computerised lottery system is used. The candidate chosen through a computerised drawing of lots gets the seat.

 

AILET LLM Eligibility Criteria

 

Criteria Details
Qualifying Examination An LL.B Degree or an equivalent degree/ examination from a recognized university.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
  • Candidates of all categories must score at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination, except for SC/ST and PwD candidates. 
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST and PwD categories must score a minimum of 45% per cent marks in the qualifying examination.

Note:

  1. The candidates who will appear for LL.B. final year exam in 2023 are considered eligible for the AILET exam.
  2. If the qualifying examination results are awaited, the candidate can sit for the AILET exam. The condition is that the candidate must have the result before the cut-off is released. 
  3. Candidates seeking admission under the Foreign National Category do not have to sit for the exam. 

 

DU LLM Eligibility Criteria

 

Criteria Details
Qualifying Examination Completed 3-year/5- year LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi or any university recognised by the University of Delhi.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
  • Candidates belonging to General/OBC (creamy layer) must get a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • For SC/ST candidates, Widows/wards of veterans and wards of serving personnel who received Gallantry awards, the minimum qualifying marks are 45% in the qualifying examination.

 

Note: 

  1. Along with SC/ST, Widows/wards of veterans and wards of serving personnel who received Gallantry awards, Physically disabled candidates and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates also get relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks.
  2. The OBCs mentioned in the central list of OBCs will only get the benefit.

 

PU LLM Eligibility Criteria

 

Criteria Details
Qualifying Examination LL.B. 3-Year Degree/ B.A. LL.B. / B.Com. LL.B. 5 Year degree examination of this University 

or

Any equivalent examination of another University recognised by the Syndicate for this purpose.

Minimum Qualifying Marks For General and other unreserved categories, 55% of marks in the qualifying examination.

For SC/ST/BC/PwD candidates, 50% of marks in the qualifying examination.

 

BHU LLM Eligibility Criteria

 

Criteria Details
Qualifying Examination 3-year LL.B. after graduation with 10+2+3 pattern 

Or

5 year LL.B. with 1+2+5 pattern recognised by the Bar Council of India.

Minimum Qualifying Marks 50% marks in the qualifying Examination
